Job description

  • Monitor, maintain and repair (if possible) electrical and mechanical systems, installations and equipment
  • Ask for support of Technical Superintendent or supplier in case of doubt and or when neede
  • Maintain the portable water system 
  • Maintain the waste task   
  • Monitor and ensure completion of all deficiencies noted in the maintenance book 
  • Actively participate in ship yard repair and maintenance periods
  • Monitor fuel oil, lubricating oil and fresh water levels
  • Oversee, plan and monitor all bunkering and oil and bilge waste operations
  • Keep engine room journal, maintenance and oil record and inventories status reports 
  • Compile list of necessary repairs for docking budget
  • Maintain logs for all equipement
  • Operate winches during towing services

Job requirements

  • Valid MCA licence Chief Engineer (> 3000 KW or unlimited), including valid supporting certificates and ENG1 Seafarer Medical
  • Proven knowledge of good seamanship by experience in lower ranks or as Chief Engineer.
  • Fully acquainted with relevant and up-to-date ship legislation.
  • Profound knowledge of diesel propulsion and electricity generated systems preferred
  • Should also have knowledge of support systems such as compressors, pumps, hydraulics, water makers, plumbing, refrigeration and heating
  • Proficient user of computer systems
  • Excellent maintenance and problem solving skills
  • Safety oriented
  • Enthusiastic and pro-active attitude
  • Team player
  • Good communication skills
  • Flexible
  • Works well under pressure, act quickly and decisively using sound judgement
  • Good planning and organization qualities; set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Willing to work in a 2 week on/off schedule
  • Within 2,5 hours commuting from London (mandatory)
