The teacher/instructor/trainer is a person who teaches, instructs, trains and assesses in a simulated engine room environment with possible interaction with bridge simulators (sea and inland water) and cargo simulators. In this environment more or less experienced marine engineers are gaining practical experience based on defined learning outcomes and undergoing assessments.
Position in the organisation
The teacher/instructor/trainer will be working under the supervision of the manager engine room & high voltage simulators.
Aim of the position
Key role player in successful design, plan and delivery of engine room simulation based training and assessment.

The functionary is responsible for:
- understanding the functions, role and use of maritime simulators as learning, training and assessment
tool;
- optimal functioning of the various engine room simulators, in particularly the full mission simulator
platforms and part task engine room simulators including high voltage;
- instructing, training and assessing during technique- and/or behaviour-oriented courses;
- documentation such as manuals, procedures, simulator logbooks, in particularly that all are up to
date;
- managing provision of the initial condition and scenario library;
- applying ownership and good housekeeping principles concerning all engine room simulators;
- constructive, effective and correct communication with clients, staff and other stakeholders; and
- being Simwave representative during training.
Quality, health and safety, and environment
- Ensures that the Quality, Safety and Environmental Policy is respected in accordance with National
and International legislations and the Company requirements; and
- stays informed with updates in companies procedures and suppliers manuals.
Competences within the function
- is authorised to seek approval for taking all necessary measures in order to realise objectives of the
training, assessments and applied research;
- is authorised to initiate commitments on behalf of Simwave BV conform the criteria in the Quality
Management System;
Skills & Requirements
- Qualified and experienced as marine engineer on large seagoing vessels, preferable cruise vessels,
and familiar with both four stroke and two stroke engine propulsion systems;
- preferably familiar with dual fuel engine rooms and/or diesel electric propulsion plants;
- preferable experienced with high voltage;
- in depth knowledge of the maritime sector, engine room technique and technical design;
- experienced and trained in the use of ERS/HV;
- interested to train and to develop on new activities closely related to developments of the centre;
- eager and to transfer knowledge and experience;
- establish a good working relationship with the management;
- team worker with a flexible approach;
- be quality conscious, service minded and creative;
- able to build strong working relationships with stakeholders;
- fluent in English both verbal and written; and
- flexibility to travel and work the hours as required.
